Gun Dog, Glasgow, 2011

In 2011, Glasgow city centre was taken over by rampaging zombies.

For a couple of weeks, the streets were shut down as the city doubled for Philadelphia in the Brad Pitt blockbuster, World War Z.

It was one of the first times Glasgow got a full American makeover, but not the last. Cloud Atlas, starring Halle Berry, quickly followed, as did Churchill and The Batman. Most recently, it was transformed into a spectacular backdrop for Spider-Man: Brand New Day (although when is it not brand new in Glasgow?).

The whole of Batgirl was filmed here too in 2021-2022, but it caused a bit of a stooshie when the film was shelved, so we’ll leave that one alone.

Back to World War Z. During filming, I spotted someone in the crowd juggling their belongings while holding a wee dog.

As they sat the dog on the armoured car, for a second it looked like it was leading the military against the zombies. I managed to quickly turn and grab this picture, before the four-legged general was scooped back into the arms of its owner.

I did get a few pics of Brad Pitt too… I’ll maybe save those for another day.
